Workshop Hoograven with Brillembourg and Klumpner 2008-20132008
Interior Design and Public Space Design students of Utrecht Graduate School of Visual Art and Design/MaHKU together with Urban Planning and Architecture students of Columbia University/Graduate School of Architecture, New York. Hoograven is a Utrecht neighbourhood with 15,000 inhabitants, often low-income immigrants. In a workshop with Brillembourg and Klumpner, architects of Urban Think Tank, MaHKU students investigate the social situation in Hoograven. Problems include lack of facilities, bad maintenance, street crime and vandalism by youngsters, and drug addiction. In Brillembourg and Klumpner's approach, data from interviews are mapped and translated into visualisations of architectural propositions. Encounters with parties concerned are animated and productive.
