Cheng Yan Tan
The project ‘ Natural States’ represented a flowing power of the time, space, and my mind.
I am interested in using abstractive elements to create illusion spaces in a graphic media.It is not a space which could be defined by a 3d level, it is a space only exist in people’s imagination.
I created a being which represented an unclearly substance inside my mind. This substance is a chaos ,which made up of the psychological reflection, the perception , or the physical feeling inside my body. It is a flowing organism with a void body, living in a measureless space. In the other hand, this organism represent a resistance of mine to the world.
There is a movement related all of my drawings and paintings. Each of my drawing were created based on the last one I did. I observe the changing of this organism, the drawings I made are the reflection about how my mind deal with the visional changes of this organism, how my emotions, my physical feeling effect the movement of this organism. But in the other hand, I am this organism. I am curious to know where I am , which location I am in my works. This observation is between subjective and objective. I suppose I am a special biologist, I doing the experiment with the hallucinatory organism created by my mind, recording it on the cloth as a code, and sharing this visional experience with the viewers.
