CHANTAL EHRHARDT

I'm fascinated by the vulnerability of life. It seems to contain 'something' which concerns us all, going beyond religion, political view, status, culture, upbringing or whichever form of differentiation. I feel the necessity to communicate this vulnerability.

In relation I'm interested in our personality; every human being has a personality, which is being influenced by culture, upbringing and our own experience. Through it we distinguish ourselves from each other. But is it possible to destruct our existing personality? Like you can plane a painted log, so that the real wood colour comes into appearance, I'm curious what is left of us without this layer of paint, without a personality. To which extent is it possible by means of visual research to uncover our personality?

Without differentiation through our personality we are naked and vulnerable. I find it fascinating to uncover people, things and experiences in the form of still images, in such a way that I capture something original, attempting to touch the bare essential.

In May 2006 Chantal Ehrhardt exhibited works in 't Hoogt in Utrecht (see pictures on the right).

Note from MAHKU: In October 2005 Chantal took part in a group exhibition "The Intermedial Zone" at Museum Boymans van Beuningen, Rottterdam. Read more here:
