EVA ROOVERS Artist statement My personal experiences are the key to my work. My social encounters with the world around me are sometimes frustrating and tend to absorb my thoughts. I find that the only way I can free myself is to convert my experience into a piece. Sometimes the work confronts the viewer with his behavior or intercourse with society. I enjoy offering people a moment of silence, where they can expand their own views. By creating a layered image in my photography, video and installations I use existing objects, which handle a recognizable expressive language in order to express myself. I am interested in creating a monumental aesthetic reality where the objects gain a different meaning. In which I can translate my inner vision to outer reality. Often that becomes a chilly and uneasy environment where people are missing. The consumer society is a reoccurring theme in my works. This theme covers my emotions that I encounter in society. The waste, alienation of work and creativity and compulsory consumption are more than just one aspect of our consumer society to me, they symbolize the interaction of people as well as the alienation of human beings.
