| THE PROGRAMME SETTING YOUR OWN COURSE Even before you start a master programme, at the stage of application, we ask you to formulate what it is that fascinates you. What subject do you want to research? And how does it relate to your design project or art production? Even though it may be adjusted later on, your input serves as a starting point for and an anchor during the programme. CROSS-OVERS We believe that the most constructive way of approaching reflection on your own field is confronting it with other artistic methods. Because of the broad scope of HKU's master programmes, you are able to compose interesting cross-overs with other fields. THE PROGRAMME This text gives you a general idea of the modular structure of the MA Design and MA Fine Art programmes. For information on the specific programmes go to the discipline of your choice. Module 1, Discourse Production, is a collective theory seminar for MA Design all pathways and the MA Fine Art. You explore cross-overs and, at the same time, reflect on the specificities of your own design/artistic method. In this module, the role of research, the boundaries of disciplines and media, and the possibilities of cross-overs will come to the fore. Within module 2, Discipline Related Research, you take the pathway of your specialization. As a continuation of a former BA-programme, the discipline-specific programmes in module 2 (editorial design, fashion design, interior design, urban interior design, fine art) offer a further deepening of relevant themes, discussions, and concepts that are topical and prominent in your field. The programmes also try to relate to more open, contextualizing, and cultural-philosophical issues in order to arrive at the field of a more general reflection. In Module 3, Individual Research, you work on your individual research and design or artistic project directed towards a critical reflection on the boundaries and possibilities of your own discipline. You will get tuition from both a practice and a theory lecturer of your chosen pathway or specialization. In module 4, Presentation, the process of communication and the context of presenting your work are investigated You complete your research and design/art project. In addition, you develop a presentation concept for your work. The presentation of your design/art project and the public defence of the thesis (End of August 2006) form the completion of the programme. |
