BUILDING OPPORTUNITIES

The assignment for the Interior reaches far beyond styling or communicating a way of life. It is the art of putting facilities in such a setting that it gives human action new significance. In this vision the perspective of the Interior Designer is to look for opportunities to realise the intention of the actor. In the art and design discourse this will create a critical awareness on intention, action and experience.

In the last decennia, interior building practice has become more complex. While working in the field, many graduates in interior design have discovered that design is just a small aspect of their profession. Counselling (investigation and communication) and design are often divided into two professions. Interior designers are mostly well able to offer a design but less capable to redefine the client's mission. The cooperation with the commissioners becomes lost in the execution of the preset question. Being developed without knowledge of interior possibilities, most programs of client requirements are an impossible puzzle without room for creativity. To re-establish the value of interior design, the designer should be able to explore the personal, organizational, and social aspects within the demands for the built environment.

Looking at the greater picture, interior design is not just creating a set of propositions for functions, shapes, materials and constructions in a spatial setting. Above all, interior design is the art of creating circumstances in which values of life can be developed and embodied by means of reflection and subsequent construction of a suitable and inspiring environment. That is what we would like to call “Building Opportunities”: putting design in the centre of the interior means to invest it with personal, social and cultural significance.
