FASHION DESIGN Engaging the future This master course trains the student to be a specialist who has knowledge of the international context of fashion design, knowledge of the role which research can play herein, and an awareness of the role which he/she wants to have in the international field using this acquired knowledge. Being able to think and act at the highest level and engaging with the fashion industry as a discussion partner is one of the important goals of the course. The need to base this in considering cultural sources, whether from our own culture or other non-Western cultures has arisen from following social developments and noting the influence and effect of the profession. The need to combine this with the development of an ethical awareness in the designer is encapsulated in the ideology of the course. Invest in research The MAHKU programme in Fashion Design offers qualified fashion designers a Master course, which provides tools to operate in a professional and critic way. The one-year fulltime study is an intensive period of research, action and reflection. The student will graduate with a collection and a thesis. Besides lessons and guidance from a professional team of tutors during the year different guestlectures, seminars and workshops will be offered. Think global, act local By raising and highlighting issues such as globalisation, brand-marketing, pollution produced by the textile industry, durability and all sorts of ethical questions related to the profession of fashion designer the course aims to contribute to the development of fashion designers who are well aware of their environment and are able to incorporate this awareness into their work. The course is aimed at training students to be all-round fashion designers who have the ambition to eventually become head designers of (inter) national companies. |
