BACKGROUND

In the 19th century, social class and related forms of identity were expressed in fashion and styles of clothing. However, in our day, social class as a form of signification has been replaced by lifestyle, gender, and ethniticity. Those phenomena raise a series of problems to be solved. What does clothing the body express? What does it mean to wear brands such as Gap, Gaultier, Millet and Moschino? Do Hip Hop styles and Punk differ as anti-styles? Do fashion and clothing reflect anti-imperialist tendencies, state ideals, and gender-based roles?

TOPICAL PROFESSION

Fashion Design in the 21st-century not only involves the transformation of materiality and form. The translation of a multiplicity of issues produced in the topical world of fashion design requires a network of departments and disciplines. The Master Programme of Fashion Design is developed to create a topical design attitude focusing on stating and solving problems created by both practical and theoretical issues in the field of fashion design.
