HENK SLAGER APPOINTED AS CURATOR OF SHANGHAI BIENNALE 2008
Henk Slager, dean of MaHKU, the Utrecht Graduate School of Visual Art and Design, has been appointed as curator of the 2008 Shanghai Biennale.

Earlier this year Henk Slager was successful with the "Flash Cube" exhibition that he curated at the Leum Museum of Modern Art. The museum was built for the Samsung foundation by Dutch architect Rem Koolhaas. Twenty-two leading artists (among them Thomas Demand, Armin Linke, Aglaia Konrad, Gerard Byrne and Koo Jeong A), participated in this research-based exhibition.

The concept of the seventh Shanghai Biennale is also characterized by the researching attitude that is the trademark of MaHKU. The coming edition will be developed in consultation with other biennales and triennales that take place in Asia next year: Guanzhou Triennal (Sarat Maharaj), Gwangju Biennale (Okwui Enwezor), Sydney Biennale (Carolyn Christov-Bakargiev), Singapore Biennale (Fumio Nanjo) and Yokohama triennale (Hans Ulrich Obrist / Daniel Birnbaum).
