| We are now live in the visual age. Movies, videos, photographs, and interactive multimedia. When we need information, we say: show me, don't tell me. Words take a lot of time and works to understand, then most of us prefer images than words. We scan the article on the media, not read it. That when informational graphics entered the media. Information graphics or infographics are visual representations of information, data or knowledge. With infographics, newspaper or magazines can combine illustration and information into a colorful, seductive packages. Many infographics are specialized forms of visual that represent their content in sophisticated and often abstract ways. In order to interpret the meaning of these graphics appropriately, the viewer requires a suitable level of graphic abilities. In many cases, the required graphic abilities involves comprehension skills that are learned rather than innate Before Infographic become popular in Indonesia publicity media, the news delivery was followed by text, photos or illustrations. In 1998, TEMPO magazine reformed, after its have stopped to publish in 1994. They want to make an innovation that can make people interested in again to read their magazine. They realize that today's readers are visual, impatient, and easily bored. The media that can gives information audio-visually, like televisions, become more attractive. That was the time when TEMPO magazine discover that magazines that come from abroad, like TIME and NEWSWEEK, use infographics for news delivery. TEMPO decided to introduce infographic to the readers in Indonesia. There are some questions that appeared. How is the effectivity of the infographics? What does the structure of the infographic that makes it meaningful? Do all the readers have the same way to understand infographic? Indonesia have different cultures background from western world. should the way of indonesian infographics be different? In my research, I will try to find out the answer of those questions. http://www.meiske.deviantart.com/ |
