| U4 RESIDENCE WORKSHOP |
| Workshop by Lex van Straten Riding our bikes through the beautiful afforested village of Bilthoven we met our final case study. An old domestic house standing in line with 3 other copies. The assignment was to rethink the house in its context. How should the original building be connected with the existing basement located next to it? How could old and new materials be used to create coherence or contrast with the district's style and its natural environment? Is it more interesting to renovate or add certain program to the house, or is it preferable to tear it down and rebuild it in a total new way according your own lines of thought referring to nature, light and, maybe also, historical context? At the end of the workshop a design had to be presented on a professional level including floor plans, sections and 3D-renderings or a model which was able to clarify the design method and thought. Also the design had to be questioned about material and construction. The design was critized by the standards and regulations of the local authorities concerning measurements and appearance. |
