PHOTOS EXAM EXHIBITION
2006
Looking at the MaHKU Interior Design graduation researches of 2006, the key-theme seems to be the rethinking of the notion 'space'. In modern, global society, space can no longer be approached as a static entity that is predetermined for a single use. With the advent of all kinds of portable equipment, public and private spaces are interfusing. And so the membrane of 'inside' and 'outside' gets thinner and more flexible as is made visible in the upper-space interventions by Tjalf van Dijkhuizen. In today's life our homes become a rush-through that may need compensation from the 'immobile furniture' Ellen Rubel suggested, while Ying-Yen Lin proposed to tranquilize the landscape. In open space a doorway like Anne Andriesen built can be a facility for interaction. Interaction was the goal of the museum redesign by Bokyoug Ju as well. Obviously there is the question about the role of physical space now that virtual space is competing with it. Vivian Lam studied the emotional contradiction, while Bram Heijnen explored the possibilities of world-wide-web initiated podia. Hsiu-Yuan Lin examined the revivification/revitalization of history as a means to exploit not only our visual senses. Zarina Za'Bar and Tanya van Leeuwen investigated immaterial influences on today's perception of Space, in the shape of daylight and limitlessness.
