Willem de Rooij (Beverwijk, 1969) stidied at the Gerrit Rietveld Academy and Rijksacademie in Amsterdam. He researches on the cultural resonance of artifacts and the afterlife of visual mass-distribution. Since 1994 Willem de Rooij and Jeroen de Rijke (1970 – 2006) produced a select corpus of 35mm and 16mm films, photographs, objects, installations and printed matters. Their collaborative work analyses the conventions of presentation and representation, and explores the areas of tension between socio-political and autonomous image production. His work was shown ao at Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam, K21 Düsseldorf, MAMBo museum for Modern Art, Bologna and the Dutch pavillion of the 51st Venice Biennale.
