Hoograven is a quarter of the city Utrecht with 15.000 inhabitants. In parts of the aerea half of the population is immigrant, generally with low education and income. The problems of the quarter like criminality, low facilities, bad maintanance, youth hanging around, drug affliction and carpark difficulty already instigated many researches and plans to improve the identity and relieve the worries.In a workshop under the guidance of Brillembourg and Klumpner, architects of Urban Think Tank, MAHKU students investigated the social situation in case. In the particular approach Brillembourg and Klumpner offered, data from interviews are mapped and translated to visualisations of architectural propositions. These options appeared to shift the discussion from a negative atmosphere into a positive one. Parties of interest attending the presentation articulated their admiration for such a clear visions on the needs of inhabitants, resulting in an animated conversation on social improvement.
