My research for the MA studies of 2008/2009 consists of two subjects. The first one is how to relate my paint work with digital tools; the second one is how to relate history of art with design departments education in university studies. Artists begun to use new tools to observe reality since Renaissance period. After Daguerres first optical registration of reality for example, artists started to use cameras for capturing instances that eyes could not see by its own and discovered to register the reality with “camera” eyes. After this new way of registration painters begun to work more and more on how to react on the perception and the reflection of the reality of the surface. For my own artistic research on the relations between digital tools and painting I would like to observe first the relation between “digital tools” and “painting” and put them in interaction as complementary or contradictionary mediums. The observation will be built on my own artistic works, on the theoretical research of “art philosophers” and on the opinion of other artists on this question. The questions I have in this research are: - Which are the influences of the tradition of painting on digital art- works?
- Which are the influences of digital tools on painting medium?
- If the priority is on content should we continue to argue about medium?
- Has it any meaning to discuss about validity of painting as a contemporary medium?
Last years creative departments art history is continuously diminishing. During my last two year of teaching experience, I developed a program which reintroduce the traditional questions to be resolved by new medium. The program obtains to have knowledge of history to be used for new forms of imagery results. Esra Sakir
