Mimi Chen
I am Mimi, from Taiwan. I studied Industrial Design and worked as a product designer before in Taiwan. This year, I study in Interior Design maHKU and research on the relationship between space and human behavior. Isolated Dining As we knew, limited space sets a boundary to human activities and their behavior can further restrict living space around. However, nowadays the technology development limits living space. Technology grows rapidly these days and people depend on it more and more, moreover, limit their space unconsciously. For example, computers replace many things in our life such as TV, radio, books and newspapers. While people rely on computers, they start to stick on a limited space in the house. They listen to music, watch TV, read and eat at the same place, the desk. Even people have much more space, they just use a small part of the house. An 'Isolated Dining' is an imagination of my design and also an application of the research. How do people arrange their space? There are always big windows in typical Dutch houses. People enjoy the natural light. They love to settle dining tables or sofas, the gathering places near the windows and arrange other space by these. For simplicity reason, single people usually eat alone on the same desk with computer. The desk with a computer becomes the first consideration and often squats the brightest part in the house. How about the rest of the space we have? If I say that people love the light part, how to deal with the dark part in the house? From design aspect, I would create an atmosphere to remind people to enjoy the isolated dining and notice the quality of life. contact: [email protected]
